الوصف

The Guide for the Tijani Disciple is a work of religious and spiritual instruction attributed to Professor Ahmed ben Abdallah SKIREDJ. Written for readers who may struggle with classical Arabic, this book is especially intended for a French-speaking or non-Arabic-reading audience seeking a clear introduction to Islam before approaching the spiritual method of the Tijāniyya.

The book is built around a central principle: a Tijani disciple must first be a good Muslim. Before engaging in the specific practices of the path, the disciple must possess sound belief, respect the foundations of Islam, follow the sacred law, understand the essentials of religion, model his conduct on the example of the Prophet Muḥammad, peace and blessings be upon him, and cultivate piety, obedience, repentance, gratitude, love of God, and steadfastness on the divine path.

The first part of the book is devoted to the foundations of Islam. It covers the search for religious knowledge, belief in God, the testimony of faith, the practice of the five pillars, piety, the Qur’an, following the Prophet, remembrance of God, prayer upon the Prophet, and the strengthening of faith. It also warns against the major moral and spiritual dangers that corrupt the believer, such as vanity, slander, hypocrisy, hatred, resentment, injustice, and enslavement to lower desires.

The second part focuses on the Tijani method itself. It introduces the principal references of Sufism, the traits of the sincere disciple, the qualities of the accomplished spiritual guide, the example of Sidi Aḥmad al-Tijānī, the conditions of the Tijani path, the structure of its litanies, and a selection of devotional supplications useful for the disciple. In this way, the book connects the universal foundations of Islam with the concrete discipline of Tijani spiritual life.

This work has a double value. On the one hand, it serves as an accessible introduction to Islam for readers unfamiliar with classical religious texts. On the other, it functions as a practical guide for the Tijani disciple, insisting that affiliation with the path never replaces sound doctrine, proper worship, and upright character. It will therefore be especially useful for readers seeking a structured presentation of Islam and a clear introduction to the foundations, practice, and spirit of the Tijāniyya.
